Pro and Con
My conflict avoidance style is avoidance. The “avoidance” style is used to describe a type of person who avoids engaging in conflict as means to sustain cooperativeness and assertiveness in a given situation. There are multiple advantages and disadvantages of the avoidance style of conflict. One of the advantages is that avoidance is suitable in conflicts where there are no foreseeable solutions. It is suitable for conflicts that have a short-term objective (Caber, Ünal, Cengizci & Güven, 2019).
Furthermore, the avoidance style ensures that a given conflict does not evolve into complex or unexpected negative outcomes. In contrast, the avoidance tactic can lead to poor outcomes in a conflict. People with avoidance tactics are typically unable to make sound or firm decisions regarding a given conflict. This means that the problem or conflict can be prolonged without any foreseeable solution.
Changing
There are ways I would like to change how I manage conflict. The first is eliminating the need to avoid conflicts, and ideally, having a positive outlook in conflict s important in handling or managing any short-term or long-term conflicts. Thus, having such a perception of a conflict can enhance my ability to engage with individuals who have a different conflict style than mine. Secondly, developing the ability to have multiple conflict styles. Having multiple capabilities to have conflicts can increase my ability to solve or tackle various forms of conflicts that I may experience.
Professional life
The understanding of different conflicts styles tactics is critical in developing my behavioral in a professional capacity to engage and solve conflicts with different types of people in the work environment. Furthermore, I will adapt my communication skills based on the type of conflict I am facing in my professional life.
