Role of Superintendents

Superintendents are senior rank positions typically held by lieutenant generals serving as high-ranking officers. The position is designated for each branch of the United States military. The overall function of the Superintendents is to oversee the various military academics within the United States military. For instance, Superintendent is the rank of the commanding officer in the United States military academy dubbed West Point. Similarly, a Superintendent is in charge United States Air Force academy and the Navy’s Naval Academy, respectively. The role of Superintendents in the military is diverse. Essentially, Superintendents undertake high-level tasks geared towards achieving the goals or mission of their institutions.

The primary role of Superintendents is to manage and oversee the operation and functionalities of the United States military academies; they are required to facilitate the development of mental, moral, and physical capabilities of cadets enrolled in their respective academic/ programs. This means that Superintendents are responsible for producing future military leaders for the United States military. 

Moreover, the mission statement of each arm of the military defines the role of the Superintendents. In developing future military leaders, the Superintendents are required to synergize the development of leadership, intellectual and physical ability, and capability of students admitted in the military academies (Chamber et al., 2014). Furthermore, the development of technology has defined the role of Superintendents in the modern era. Essentially, Superintendents are required to manage both externally and internally the institution’s message, especially during a crisis. The latter is required to use social media platforms to control information narratives that sustain the image and code of the military academy, epically during crises. This means that the Superintendents are responsible for managing communication between the military academies and the outside world.
