Mental Health Illness
Describe your past experience in mental health or with someone with mental illness.
Before operating in a mental medical institution, all I knew about mental health was what I saw in films or heard about in the news. I got an occupation as a nurse practitioner in a behavioral health institution. As I learned more about the role, I realized I didn’t like the surroundings or the patient populace, and I decided it wasn’t for me. As I talked with my mentor and gained a stronger understanding of the illness process, I realized I required to make a difference in this underprivileged concern. I wasn’t sure the whole time, but I felt a little smarter regarding the position and required a little more convincing.
What are the reasons you have chosen to work with this population?
I chose to work with this population because I desired to assist patients with difficulty understanding or coping with their mental health problems. My professional objective is to focus on counseling for individuals who have been through distressing encounters (Mayo Clinic, 2019). I lost a loved one when I was youthful, and I used mental health counseling sessions to help me handle my distress. I’m excited about operating in a specialty where I can assist people similar to how I’ve been helped.
Discuss any concerns you have regarding this specific clinical course and population Adult/Geriatric.
I was still worried about working with the adult aging populations when I began my nursing bachelor’s degree. I’m still haunted by the image of elderly people dying slowly in a wheelchair. My perception of how this population has contributed to the community and how it has tormented me to witness and perceive them weaken from their ability of living. Mental disorder, especially distress, is common in the initial phases of Alzheimer’s disorder and other forms of mental illness.
Identify personal and academic/professional goals for the clinical course and population Adult/Geriatric.

This objective aims to improve and raise awareness among all policy interested parties in order to bring about transformation and increase financial support for the elderly and mental general well-being.
