1. How will you provide the needed personal care for Mrs. Jones?

Incontinence in this case can be as a result of the patient failing to recognize the need to go to the washroom because they have forgotten where the bathroom is. It can also be caused by side effects from medicine. To provide necessary care, I will consult a doctor who will determine the cause of the incontinence and establish whether it is treatable. I would not limit her fluid intake to prevent dehydration which can cause urinary tract infection and heighten incontinence.

I would encourage her to communicate and not feel embarrassed for her condition.

To provide necessary care to her by sticking to the routine she was used to before her condition without introducing new concepts because her senile capacity cannot process new concepts (Alzheimer’s Association).

I would give her foods rich in fiber and a lot of water to keep her stool consistent and keep her hydrated.

2. What will you say to the family?

I would encourage her family to stay in touch, be patient with her progress, take part in her leisure activities and the most important to educate themselves about the Alzheimer’s disease (Mayo Clinic, 2020).

3. What tactics could you try to enable Mrs. Jones to help with her own care?

I would plan a toilet routine and schedule. Provide her with a reminder to use the bathroom and maintain a regular schedule.

4. How will you treat her holistically?

I would avoid scolding her and making her feel guilty for her condition. I would make sure she knows that it is not her fault that she suffers from the disease and come up with a plan on how to provide care for her. She will be involved in the implementation of the plan for example in following regular routines. Her family will also be an essential element in ensuring she is provided with the best care.
