Organizational chart for Leonard-Griggs

Rational

The use of functional structure will be critical in dividing or configuring the hospital into small groups by specialization such as marketing, finance, customer care, and administrative. This functional area will be disconnected from each group but will be vertical to the overall management of the Leonard-Griggs.

Pros and cons

Functional management plays a central role in enhancing operational efficiency because workers with similar skills perform the same functions. This enables the group’s “silos” to operate independently with the minimal bureaucratic process while using the top management as the liaison communication command with other functional departments (Olden, 2016).

In contrast, the functional structure can be difficult or challenging to adopt and implement in a small organization like Leonard-Griggs. The structure is effective in large companies that produce homogenous services or goods where the communicative silos may not confine creativity and adaptability.

Applying concepts

The various business concepts and theories cannot be applied singularly to all departments. However, a combination of multiple concepts can be adapted based on the needs of each function or department. The Leonard-Griggs management will be able to collect and analyze data from the customers to one functional group without involving employees who may feel such functions are not part of their initial job description.

Change and why

I will add a research and development department responsible for overseeing ways in which the organization can continue to satisfy the needs of the consumers. The department will constitute employees responsible for conducting required studies and research without primarily incorporating other departments. This will ensure there are no overlaps of duties and roles during creative processes as evident in the case study.
