NU450: Public Health Nursing – Population Centered Health Care in the Community

Unit 5 SWOT Analysis

Introduction to the Community:

Collier County is one of the counties located in the state of Florida. According to health, Florida is one of the highest-ranked states in the country (Winterbauer et al., 2016). Collier County consists of about four hundred thousand residents, with most of them being women (Gmunder et al., 2021). The median age in the county is about 50, which means that most residents are elderly (Waterhouse & M, 2019). Although the county has positive health rates, there are still sectors that require improvement. A community’s health depends on determining the physical and mental status of members of every age. Analyzing the health status of any county requires officials to take part in surveys and other analyses to identify all aspects of health.

SWOT Analysis

 Strengths  Weaknesses
Collaboration and integrated efforts by state, county, and communities (Page et al., 2019).Efficient health organizational culture (Lutfiyya et al., 2015).Training of staff within the health sector (Daley et al., 2015).      Financial issues due to budget constraints within the county (Shi & Stevens, 2021).Poor response to the pandemic causing fear and stress (Fofana et al., 2020).Inadequate professionals in the health sector to meet health demands (Jørgensen et al., 2015).
 Opportunities  Threats
Mass immunizations and educational programs to deal with effects of the pandemic (Dayrit et al., 2020).Insisting on the need for grants to improve health status (Sherman et al., 2019).Investment in better technology in the health sector (Cantiello et al., 2016).  Burnout which affects most workers in the health industry (Reith, 2018). Hazardous work places and conditions (Namian et al., 2016).High cost of living in the county (Vásquez-Vera et al., 2017).

Summary of Conclusions:

Collier is a county ranked one of the best in terms of health in the county. One of the main factors contributing to this fact is the collaboration seen between the health sector and the community members. Problems within the sector in the county are mainly caused by an emerging pandemic which demonstrated how unprepared the whole country was to deal with the issue. This complication also demonstrated that the number of health workers in the county was not enough to meet the demands. There is still room for the county to improve these challenges by insisting on the need for people to get immunized. The county should also concentrate on increasing the number of workers in the health industry and improving technology, which will help increase health care quality.
