A conflict that involved one of my group work members and me on who should make the final presentation, we both wanted to make the final presentation. This led to resentment, decreased cooperation and we eventually utilized a third party to solve the issue. It was successful because the third party took a neutral stand and fostered cooperation.
Leadership-employee conflicts. Employees at a particular company were promised a pay raise. However, this did not happen and they have boycotted their duties, claiming that the company failed to keep its promise.
Types of Intervention
Mediation process where a third party comes in and tries to help the two parties to talk and end the disagreement and to also agree on a solution. The third party does not make any decisions but rather mediates and help the two parties to come to a mutual agreement and settlement. (Woodward-Smith, n.d.).
Advantages
It increases the control the parties have over the resolution, guarantees faster outcome, is cost-effective, is confidential unless specifically agreed otherwise, there is the preservation of relationships as mediation helps the two sides to talk and communicate with each other instead of attacking each other. Compared to litigation mediation is a flexible process that has a wide range of outcomes.
Disadvantages
If one party is unwilling to cooperate it can make the process difficult, one party can withdraw from the process at any time, needs all parties need to be truthful because if one party withholds some information it can make things difficult, and utilizing the service of an unskilled mediator can contribute to an unproductive resolution (Shonk, 2021).
