People and Events in Deaf History

The writer assumes that assistive technologies to help deaf people have always existed. He also assumes that students are interested in finding out about the history of sign language. I agree that the deaf community has faced many challenges throughout history. The introduction of new technology has helped make life easy and helped them cope with some everyday situations. I also agree that we have a long way to go as a people. Certain advancements such as technology and understanding the deaf community around us will help create positive differences globally. I do not agree that assistive technology for the deaf has always existed. The first type of technology used to help deaf people was invented in the year 1964. Robert H. Weibrecht and Dr. James C. Masters made history as the first Text to telephone (TTY) to help other deaf people like themselves to use the telephone.
