What did you find extraordinary in the report?
By going through the short story of Deaf or Dead, I am surprised by the parable of Zen “I don’t know.” Once the small-scale farmer lost a horse, I was surprised to see that it later returned home, but this time came with many horses. I am also surprised to see that the narrator didn’t know that everybody could die no matter the age one is.
What did you find puzzling in the report?
According to the report, I don’t understand how the kids acquired the bomb they were playing with. It is also hard to understand how World War 2 weapons would be disposed of carelessly despite knowing the dangers they could put the residents of that area.
What did you find useful in the report?
One of the most useful pieces of information I found from the report is that one should be careful and that one should not always come into contact with items or objects they aren’t familiar with. If the four kids had consulted a senior about the bomb, they couldn’t have died as a result of the explosion.
What new information did you learn from watching the report?
According to the report, I came to learn that being deaf has advantages. According to my perspective, I only viewed being deaf as a disadvantageous thing that I later realized has advantages.
What information did you already know?
I had already known that when a person is injured, he couldn’t be eligible for war. This is portrayed in the film, whereby the farmer’s son was not recruited to join the war since he had a broken leg. Also, I already knew that playing with dangerous weapons could lead to explosions which occurred, killing the four kids.
What did you find most attractive in the film?
Based on the report, I found the title of the film most attractive. The other thing is that the person in the video was lucky to be deaf; otherwise, he would have died with the other friends. The story also is very inspiring since it reflects on the importance of being deaf, and hence, they can appreciate themselves
