My piece of art made from recycled materials was a wooden picture frame. I utilized three items to make the wooden picture frame, which included pieces of wooden pallets. I got the pallets from my uncle’s backyard, in addition to leftover unused staples and screws. I also used a tin can rim and old wires to fasten the frame and give it an aesthetic look. The pallets were dark-colored, with one being darker than the other, which gave the picture frame more depth and character. I cut the pallets into four pieces each and measured them then aligned each to fit into a frame. I then glued, stapled, and glued them together to make a strong piece of frame. Finally, I took the wire and tin can rim and wound them around the frame to hold it together. I then made sure that there were no sharp ends on the frame.
Chief Seattle asserts that “The earth does not belong to man. Man belongs to the Earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. The earth is sacred and men and animals are but one part of it. Treat the earth with respect so that it lasts for centuries to come and is a place of wonder and beauty for our children” (Goodreads, 2021). This quote indicates that man is blessed to have found a home on this planet, and he should respect what has been given to him by God and use it well. It is his duty to keep the environment clean and without wastage of resources by recycling materials. By recycling things that could be disposed, man would benefit immensely, and do little harm to the Earth which feeds him. As such, the wooden picture frame made from recycled materials makes use of useless pallets, screws, and wires to make the environment cleaner for habitation.
