Appropriateness for Dx:

The Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) is an instrument used to screen disorders that relate to bipolar. It is a brief self-report instrument that takes about 5 minutes to complete The Mood Disorder Questionnaire was formulated by a ream of consumer advocates, researchers, and psychiatrist to address issues relating to bipolar disorder, which has become among the leading conditions of mental health. It is commonly used in primary care giving. Hirschfeld, et al., (2003) points out that the Mood Disorder Questionnaire has a weight sensitivity of twenty-eight percent in correctly identifying individual with various spectrum of bipolar disorder.

Response to Therapy/Treatment:

The Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) has been designed to enable individuals to determine if they are at risk of bipolar disorder. Furthermore, it assist persons to identify the “level” or spectrum of bipolar they have been diagnosed with such as hypomanic or manic.

Psychometrics:

The Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) has been quantified into five section inform of statement. The first statement is categorized into thirteen statement with no or yes questions that assess symptoms of bipolar. The remaining four section examine the impaired functioning and co-occurrence symptoms. Limitations:

One of the challenge associated with the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) is that it indicate an elevated sensitivity when bipolar I has been detected compared to the other spectrums of bipolar. In addition, the MDQ tend to “miss” detecting more than half of bipolar II.
