During the risk management process an assessment will be done to evaluate certain exposures that may be a risk to the organization. Those risks could possibly impact the organization’s daily operations. The assessment will also determine the damage those risks may have on the organization\’s revenue including their reputation.
Regulation involves rules that must be followed, while accreditation is a seal of approval (from some independent accrediting body) certifying that an organization or individual has met specific standards (Warburton, 2009). It is important to know how they both affect risk management, especially in healthcare, because I would need to know how to distinguish between the two if I should ever be a part of making changes to policies and even enforcing those policies.
An example of such would be a hospital receiving a visit from The Joint Commission. While surveying the health care facility a patient will be selected at random and their medical record will be evaluated to assure that it is complying with regulations such as HIPPA. While the patient is being traced, the surveying person will speak with staff such as doctors and nurses asking random questions making sure they are up to date on the organization’s policies and procedures.

You have presented an elaborate and well-detailed post explaining the role of regulations in organizations, especially the healthcare industry. You have stated that regulatory bodies are either public or government set organizations that assist in imposing requirements, standards, and ensuring organizations’ compliance. I agree that regulatory bodies help protect the public from risks arising from health issues. The regulations and standards in healthcare maintain compliance with various facilities to ensure that patients access the highest form of services. You have stated that healthcare regulatory bodies also ensure patient safety by ensuring facilities comply with the various standards developed by the federal government, survey and keep tabs of various practitioners and facilities, and facilitate information sharing, especially when it comes to changes in the practice or rules. There are several regulating bodies in healthcare, including the provider licensing boards, public health departments, and insurance commissioners.
