Organization structure
The company employs a hierarchical organizational structure. Hierarchical organizational structure groups workers into groups based on their competency (Widhiastuti, 2012). This is evident by the fact that employees have been grouped or assigned to a specific industry director, and the consultants have been grouped based on their specialty or skills. Coherently, a hierarchical organizational structure enables employees to focus on their area of interest or specialty, which is critical in enabling the company to be productive in the long run. In essence, the hierarchical organizational structure enables employees to be experts’ roles and responsibilities.
The structure initially introduced in the company has been instrumental in enabling the employees (consultants) to work with ease. Ideally, each worker has been assigned a director whom they can report to without going to the office physically. In essence, a hierarchical organizational structure enabled the employee to have a flexible work culture that allowed each employee to organize or attend to their responsibility based on their personalized schedule.
The newly introduced organizational changes have negatively affected the existing work culture. The flexibility initially accorded to the consultants has been reduced due to new regulations requiring employees to attend specific office hours for meetings. Such a move has affected the employee’s productivity, as demonstrated by the recently observed dwindling performance.
Recommendation
Businesses often employ new strategies to improve the overall productivity of the company. However, some changes can negatively affect the overall productivity and functionality (Tardieu et al., 2020). This is the situation with the sampled company. Thus, the new manager needs to maintain the status in terms of operation and management of employees, and in case of any new changes, employee input should be considered.
