Leadership
Analyze scenario
Numerous problems are facing the company, as discussed in the scenario. One of the main problems relates to the management’s negligence in dealing with the quality issue raised by the employees. The production manager failed to act on the problem raised by vendor acrylic. His failure resulted in the production of poor quality products, which most of the customers are not satisfied with. Furthermore, the manager fails to acknowledge his failure in addressing the production process after being confronted by an employer. This demonstrates the lack of sufficient leadership skills regarding social and emotional intelligence.
Leadership style
Authoritarian can quantify the leadership styles demonstrated by the manager as authoritative. Authoritative leadership refers to a management style where the leader is in complete control (Rahbi, Khalid & Khan, 2017). An authoritative leader sets the goals, determines the processes, and oversees all steps it takes to reach those goals with little or no input from team members. Researchers have argued that one of the challenges facing leaders using authoritative leadership is that they fail to consider the input of other colleagues. This is evident by the fact that the production manager ignored the “point” raised by the junior employee regarding vendor acrylic. Thus, the failure to listen to their junior employees suggests that they are practicing authoritative leadership styles.
Leadership process
The leadership process is the procedure where leaders accomplish the organization’s objective by considering the views of colleagues. There are numerous leadership processes that the production manager has neglected (Tseng & Levy, 2019). For instance, one of the processes that the production manager neglected relates to the lack of clarifying what other employees can contribute to the company’s success. The manager failed to consider or act on the problems facing the company by “assuming” what Maria suggested. Furthermore, the manager failed to support what Maria stated about the problem facing production of quality products, which indicates the negligence of a specific leadership process.
Communication process
There are numerous steps necessary for communication to be effective in an organization that sends, encodes, transmits, receives, and decodes. However, in the context of the above case study, the production manager failed to address part of the communication process. First, the manager failed to decode the received message sent by Maria. This means that the manager did not consider interpreting the message sent and understanding the implications of the problem raised. Secondly, the manager failed to offer responses to the raised question regarding the problem raised. This is demonstrated by the fact that after Maria raised the question, the manager remained silent for a few seconds and closed down the meeting.
Communication and leadership
The manager could have effectively used communication and leadership skills to minimize or eliminate many of the company’s problems. First, they should have ensured that the communication cycle is complete by offering responses regarding what should be done to steps taken to address the issue raised immediately. As an effective leader, the manager could set up and oversee a team of experts to assess the quality raised. Such an approach could have minimized the production of low-quality products. Furthermore, the manager could have used proper communication techniques to build a positive relationship with the junior employees in the company. Thus, increasing cooperation and reliance among employees in solving existing problems.
