After completing the individual leadership self-assessment, I discovered that the leadership behaviour I scored least is inspiring a common vision. This means that I was unfriendly to the employees when it came to communicating my objectives. I had a hard time permitting anyone to obstruct my viewpoints. Most of the time, my goal had taken weeks in the making and is the summation of all my objectives and desires. This caused me to fail rather than have someone breach a vision I had learned to appreciate. This implies that none of the employees will accept the idea since they lack a clear understanding of it. Those in the corporation who will implement the goal into action must engage in it. If the employees do not endorse the goal, it will fail. A common goal will aid in directing the worker’s effort and participating in practice growth when creating the inspiration. Employees and teammates will be more involved if I adopt a collaborative approach. Creating a shared vision encourages participation, devotion, and consistency.
A shared vision would assist me in motivating employees and focusing the efforts of all staff workers by providing a path for transformation. In reality, a shared vision would offer a defined direction and a compelling objective. It would help me to maintain the employees on track and establish the objectives. A shared vision among employees would clarify values and attitudes and is required to ensure that there is a shared purpose and intended goals (Martin, Fitzsimons, McCormack & Sprig, 2014).

S: Specific
My developmental goal is to be a visionary leader to increase employee productivity as well as increase worker engagement. The rationale as to why I chose this goal is because it is an essential approach to becoming a successful leader. According to the self-assessment, I was rated poorly in the shared vision, which is a crucial aspect of an effective leader. Being a visionary leader will assist my progress in this area. To become a visionary leader, I would have to set objectives to ensure that this goal is met. Being a creative, strong, proactive, risk-taker, competent planner, motivated, and fearless are some of the objectives that would help me accomplish my goal. In addition, I must be inspiring, emotionally intelligent, transparent, detail-oriented, possess excellent communications abilities, and be creative.
M: Measurable: Your goal must be measurable
Some of the metrics I would use to assess if I achieve my goal personally and professionally include controlling workplace techniques, mentoring employees, sharing power, and supporting objective accomplishment. I would also maintain a record to rack the success of my goals and also evaluate my advancement to see on the area in need of improvement. There will be a plethora of metrics(s) utilized to assess the effectiveness of reaching objectives(s) along the way. Some of the metrics include the objectives I attain, impacting conduct, worker contentment, staff retention, worker involvement.
A: Achievable: Your goals must be achievable
The skills and abilities I’ll require to accomplish this goal include; gaining in-depth professional expertise, having several points of view/perspectives, establishing solid relationships with employees, novel concepts, and enhancing communication. All of these will assist me in becoming a visionary leader and achieving the desired goals. In order to achieve this goal, there is a need to involve different parties. Managers and workers will be involved in the success of this goal and be encouraged to interact in a pleasant setting to guarantee that they are engaged and feel acknowledged, which contributes to a pleasant workplace setting.
R: Relevant: Your goal must be relevant
This goal can be linked to a broader corporation objective in a variety of ways. The capacity of the leader to communicate a thoroughly defined vision determines the level of visionary management. The goal is consistent with the company’s goals and motivates all business employees to embrace it. Visionary leaders are typically well-organized and can readily engage with anybody they choose. Visionary executives join businesses to kickstart the entire operation. They are creative leaders who can inspire all group workers. This type of leader incentivizes the organization to stay engaged in the work even when problems arise. This objective will broaden my understanding and enhance my entire effectiveness as a leader. Visionary leaders approach the issue with well-thought-out active strategies, incorporating concepts for procedures, personnel and recognizing strengths and limitations. Creating a vision strategy guarantees legitimacy and positivism. Throughout the process, I will broaden my understanding and improve my leadership skills.
T: Time-Bound: Your goals must be time-bound
A personalized development strategy entails constantly cultivating and enhancing skills and expertise (Smither, McIntire & Houston, 2016). The overall timeline for this goal is four years to organize, create, and execute actual measures to enhance the corporation’s entire situation. Considering that the plan is initially implemented on April 2, 2021, by April 2, 2025, there will be an enhanced workplace environment in which workers will be participating in choice-making. There will be incentives and appreciation events, proper educational initiatives, and staff will be handled decently.
