Are Experiments the Gold Standard in Research?

The utilization of an experimental setup has the benefit of making it much simpler to remark on cause and effect. The experimental approach is broadly utilized to generate consistency and time primacy in casual connections between two aspects (Gaille, 2017). It is also utilized when the magnitude of a correlation is large. An experimental study is referred to as a genuine experiment in a highly restrictive context. Other techniques, such as correlational, studies, and case analyses, are utilized, but the Experimental technique employs sample selection groups, which generate stronger findings. This approach was utilized in the Stanley Milgram Experiment to evaluate whether individuals obeyed orders, as well as in the Law of Segregation.  This was conducted in the nineteenth century. Furthermore, test analysis or the experimental approach is the most appropriate path for making causal conclusions about intervention or medications and determining whether at least one element triggers a change in a consequence (Shaughnessy, 2014). This is due, in large part, to the emphasis on controlling non-essential factors. This implies greater control over variables.

Some drawbacks of applying the experimental approach include the creation of untrue or artificial scenarios that do not always reflect real-life circumstances (Gaille, 2017). The respondents’ life encounters, feelings, or well-being may affect their responses, and those different factors may be unknown to the research scientist. And, for ethical purposes, an experiment may be hampered or halted entirely. It is also vulnerable to human inaccuracy. Prejudices play a significant role in the drawbacks. All methodologies target distinct audiences for various purposes, such as qualitative studies, which includes a focus group, and personal interview, which utilize an audience for audience assessment. Qualitative study is also used in assessments and questionnaires. Therefore, based on my findings I believe that experimental design is a gold standard in research findings.
