Self-Assessment (Servant Leadership)
The servant leadership style is mainly based on the idea that a leader will prioritize serving for the greater good, thus first serving team members and the organization. Based on this self-assessment test on servant leadership, the areas that I scored strong servant leader behaviors include emotional healing (26), conceptual skills (25), behaving ethically (26), helping followers grow and succeed (24), and creating value, particularly for the community (27). My score in these behaviors is potentially good for me with regard to servant leadership. In my current context, I use these behaviors with the primary aim of achieving specific common goals of the community, people, and organizations rather than focusing on personal goals and objectives. This case means that I mainly seek to achieve visions through these behaviors, particularly by providing support to other people.
I had moderate scores on two areas of behaviors, thus the need for improvement. These areas include empowering with a score of 14 and putting followers first with a score of 20. Improving these areas will ensure effectiveness and more positive outcomes in my role as a servant leader. My servant leadership will impact my leadership effectiveness by increasing organizational commitment. The main reason is that this servant leadership will play a major role in increasing trust, loyalty, and, most importantly, the satisfaction of my followers with me as a leader (Liao et al. 2021). One major drawback in using servant leadership behaviors is that they have the potential to contribute to more focus on people sadly will fewer determinations and focus on actual goals of an organization as a consequence. Besides, these behaviors may take more time in its establishment. It may also not work for all organizations.
Self-Assessment (Authentic Leadership)
An authentic leader is effective in furthering the success of an organization with the confines of ethical values and, most importantly, social value, even in situations where it seems impossible (Northouse, 2021). One of the things that surprised me about the result from this assessment is that out of the four major dimensions of authentic leadership, two of them show I am a strong, authentic leader, while two of them show lower authentic leadership orientation. The score shows I am strong in rational transparency and in balancing processes, with a score of 5 and 4.25, respectively. Self-awareness (3.75) and internalized moral perspective (3.5) had a lower score. However, these scores are not very low, which means with just a little more effort, I can have a high score in all the areas.
The self-awareness factor will help me become an effective leader by improving my ability to make better and effective choices, particularly by understanding what I bring in my leadership roles. This will help me to perform my roles and responsibilities better as a leader. Rational identity helps me to share my strengths or weaknesses with others, particularly by admitting when I make any mistake and, most importantly, sharing my strengths with others. Therefore, rational transparency will help me foster an organizational culture of trust between me and my subordinates. Balanced processing will help me become an effective leader by improving my ability to solicit specific and opposing ideas and, most importantly, consider different options before choosing a desired course of action. The internalized moral perspective will help me retain coherence between any judgment made and core principles expressed. Besides, it will also be important in ensuring I demonstrate justice and, most importantly, a strong level of professional practice. To become a more authentic leader, it will be important for me to understand specific areas of weaknesses and make improvements (Lee, 2018).
Self-Assessment (Emotional Intelligence)
Most of my results, in this case, indicate a strong emotional intelligence. These results include perceiving emotions in self (5), using emotions in facilitating thought, and understanding emotional complexity, having a score of four, and managing emotions in self; I scored 4.25. The other two, perceiving emotions in others (3.5) and managing emotions in others (3.75), indicate lower emotional intelligence. One surprise based on these results is the fact that I am a bit poor at perceiving and managing other people’s emotions. As a result, this calls for the need to improve how I handle and respond to other people’s emotions. However, the result is not very low, thus showing that I can ensure effectiveness and positive outcomes in consideration of my emotional intelligence with just simple responsive measures.
To apply my emotional intelligence, I tend to focus on the use of a mysterious blend of different and reliable psychological abilities. This case means that I focus mainly on remaining empathetic and, most importantly, self-aware. In most cases, I apply emotional intelligence by reading and regulating my emotions while intuitively grasping how different people gauge and feel their emotional state in any environment (Kim, 2018). Other areas that I can apply emotional intelligence skills include building strong and reliable relationships and, most importantly, assembling teams that are more effective. Therefore, these skills help me relate with other people, motivate, solve conflicts in a skillful manner, and most importantly, inspire other people to take positive actions (Northouse, 2021).
Emotional intelligence relates to me as a follower as it helps me build strong relationships with leaders, succeed in my work, achieve both personal and career goals. Besides, it also plays a critical and significant role in influencing how I deal and relate with other followers. As a result, I can understand other followers’ and leaders’ emotions, concerns, and needs (Kim, 2018). Besides, it also helps in picking up cues, feeling socially comfortable, and improving my ability to recognize the power dynamic in either a team or society.
Comment to Action
The best action I can apply to my leadership in the upcoming days is mainly understanding myself and, most importantly, others. This action will help create a culture and an environment that helps me support and value others. Therefore, the goal of this action is to improve my understanding of my abilities and emotion and, most importantly, others. As a result, it will help to improve performance. Satisfaction and ensure the satisfaction of all people. Such a culture will ensure effectiveness and positive outcomes in promoting productivity and engagement among people or in a team. By focusing on this action, it will be easy for me to understand how best and effectively to influence positive outcomes and achieve desired goals and objectives. The primary goal is to understand how best to relate and influence other people in an effective, reliable, and supportive way to all team members within an organization. As a result, applying this action will significantly influence my upcoming days.
