EBP PROJECT

Step 2:  Search for the Best Evidence

1.     Based on your PICOT question( In patients 40 years and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus(P), how does regular exercise, reducing foods high in sugar and unsaturated fats, and educating the patients on how to manage DM (I) compared to type 2 diabetics with sedentary lifestyle, intake of foods high in sugar and saturated fats and lack of education (C), affect their blood glucose levels and HbAIC (O) over a 3-month period after intervention(T)?) complete a search using CINAHL, PubMed, and/or the Cochrane database.

2.     Narrow or expand your search yield to contain 15-20 studies if possible. (See Box 3.2 p 90)

3.     Write a paragraph to describe this systematic search. (See examples from Making EBP Real in text.)

4.     In Appendix A, provide a copy of your Search Activity (screen shots). (Appendices are placed behind the References. See APA.)

·       Remember, this is not a list of articles; rather the history of your search activity. (See text pp. 74-77; Figures 3.6 and 3.7)
