1. Genetically modified organisms – Research various agricultural products currently on the market which have been genetically modified. Pick one to investigate further addressing the following questions/issues: What specifically has been modified with the product? How long has it been on the market? How much of the total genome has been modified? In general, is this product safe? Is there anyway to know if you are eating this product versus the “normal” version? Should consumers be told they are consuming a genetically modified product? What do you think personally about these types of products? For your initial post, please visit theAmerican Cancer Society homepage. On the home page, click on “Cancer A-Z”. There is a list of numerous types of cancers. Choose one from the list (or one of your own from another site).

Research the particular type of cancer you chose being sure to address the following questions: Which part of the body is affected? What are some warning signs? Are there any treatments? Approximately how many people are affected with this type of cancer? Are certain people more at risk than others? Is it more prevalent in certain areas of the world?

In addition, what are your thoughts about cancer in general? Does it seem that there are more cases of it in today’s society? If so, why might this be the case? Do you think human-made or natural compounds are more responsible for causing cancers? Do you have any personal experience of knowing someone with cancer? Would you like to share your personal experiences with cancer?

Fermentation is an important process in biology. It is also an important process in which many foods we eat and beverages we drink are made. Now that you have had a chance to study the various ways in which fermentation can be used, you will choose a topic from the table below that uses an organism that undergoes fermentation to produce the desired product and discuss.
